Abu Dhabi is the capital of the seven-member United Arab Emirates and its largest and wealthiest member. Termed emirates because they are ruled by emirs, others are Ajman, , Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah, Sharjah and Umm al-Quwain. It is the center of the emirate’s political and cultural activities. It has enormous reserves of oil and natural gas, as well as a pristine and beautiful natural environment encompassing sea, islands, coastline and desert. The Plan Abu Dhabi 2030 details how Abu Dhabi will succeed in managing its growth in a way that is good for business, for residents and for the environment. And by doing this, Abu Dhabi will achieve its goal of becoming a global capital city, the most planned city in the whole world, world renowned for its cultural, tourism and business offerings.

Under the wise guidance of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the country, and his brother, Lieutenant General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, the UAE government is working toward building a stable economy that is divorced from dependence on oil as a primary source of national income. By cultivating a secure, encouraging and lucrative investment environment, the government is attracting local, regional and foreign capital. This influx of funds is contributing to the development of the UAE while providing substantial returns to a wide cross section of investors.

Year-round sunshine, pristine beaches, spectacular sand dunes, exotic landscaping and pulsating cosmopolitan lifestyle await every guest in Abu Dhabi. These, combined with distinctive Arabian hospitality, mystique and world-class infrastructure make Abu Dhabi a dream land and an enchanting destination for experienced and novice travellers. The golden colours of the skyline and business friendly atmosphere ignites fresh business ideas or vacation extension in every business or holiday makers.

Visit Abu Dhabi, even for a short time, and the quiet confidence of this dynamic capital city is quickly apparent. It’s a confidence that prioritizes planning

and getting things right from the start. What’s the source of this confidence? Perhaps it’s the $350 billion in infrastructure, real estate and industrial projects already in progress for the city. Maybe it stems from the Persian Gulf emirate’s enormous oil and gas reserves and growing human capital base. It could also be the awareness that most elements of the city’s future growth have already been studied and planned out. But it is likely a combination of all these factors.

This city’s ambitious and deliberate approach to growth was behind the creation of “Plan Abu Dhabi 2030: Urban Structure Framework Plan.” Plan Abu Dhabi 2030 was created by an international urban planning task force that tapped the world’s best urban planning and community development experts.

The over arching principles of the plan are:

Abu Dhabi will be a contemporary expression of an Arab city, which has people living and thriving in healthy and supportive proximity to each other.

• It will continue its practice of measured growth, reflecting a sustainable economy, rather than uncontrolled growth.

Abu Dhabi will respect and be scaled to and shaped by the natural environment of sensitive coastal and desert ecologies.

• It will manifest its role and stature as a capital city.

• It’s urban fabric and community infrastructure will enable the values, social arrangements and culture of this Arab community. Using different building heights, architectural styles and distinct districts to help form the character of this city, the plan also provides for a comprehensive transportation plan to avoid congestion that includes roads, rail and bus links.

The plan will guide Abu Dhabi as it transforms itself into a global center of business, manufacturing and high-end tourism. The city already has made international headlines with agreements to build the Louvre Abu Dhabi and the Frank Gehry designed Guggenheim Abu Dhabi. These museums will anchor the cultural district of Saadiyat Island, a massive mixed-use development on a natural island just off the coast.

This is the future, this is Abu Dhabi. The land that is structured on gold mine.
