A Shattered Ontology

Mother Africa!! We are stucked in the middle, between your essence and the doctrines of the ex-masters. Your culture have been joggled, weighed and traded on the altar of westernization. The norms, beliefs, cultures, morals, humanness etc that you left behind have been forsaken by your beloved.

Africa has been from the beginning of age. It was the centre stage of affairs in the early centuries when men were men. It has been a peaceful region with independent tribal territories that co-existed with one another in the form of trade, marriages and even wars. There were clans, villages, kingdoms, empires and emirates. Each group is distinctive of the other with their languages, tribal marks, mode of dressing, cultures, music, arts, architecture, skin colour, hair-do, cults, mode of worship, mode of farming etc. This ontology’s were held in high esteem by the members of each clan. The glory of the king is the welfare of his people. It was their pride and that of the empire, so they protect it with every machinery at their disposal until the advent of the white man.

The effects of colonialism will never be deleted in the memory of cultured Africans. This so called civilizing theory which holds that the mission was for the benefit of Africa was wrong. It was catalytic to whatever that is happening in the region now. Yes, the mission was civilizing but the white man failed to understand his own language, his vision became clouded with “eccentricism”, subtle in minds and clear in vision to build their frontiers of imperialism. They said “if a naked man promises you cloths, Beware”. In order to hang the dog, it must labeled a bad name. African issue was no exception as they(Europeans) file out their fangs like a fox and tore apart the ontology of the African region by labeling it “inferior”. Clans, villages and empires metamorphosed into semi-states with coercion as their foreign policy dictates. The emirates were subdued and the pride of dynasties shattered by the barrel of their imperialistic guns. A unified language of the invaders was made mandatory for all, ripping the cloths of nakedness off the region. African culture was assaulted, relegated and trampled upon. The values, norms, morals and cultures that was held at high esteem were tagged inferior and demonized.

As this dastardly act was being perpetrated, some people were busy working on the drawing board on how to partition the “inferior” Africa in order to provide enough raw materials for their industries. This exploitation of Africa’s mineral resources feed their industrial revolution. As if that was not enough, Human resources were also tampered with – emergence of slavery. They took the raw material and the people to work on their farms that are scattered all over Europe and America. Mother Africa was left bare and naked, her ontology buried in the deep shores of exploitation and hate.
